IS BRIAN WILSON RAGING?

Rage against thy brother

09 Jul 2014

Weezy’s most recent appearance featured some Dodger-on-Dodger rage.

Bloggers suggested Weez was grouchy over the implications that failed double play had for his ERA.

Rough outings spiked Weezy’s ERA, but he started to bring it down in June. But his average has risen by one run in his two July appearances: the one run allowed in Colorado and a dreadful 1/3 of an inning against the Indians that earned him three runs and a loss.

Using ERA to judge relievers is wonky, but let’s compare the evolution of Wilson’s 2014 ERA to the other Dodger relievers anyway.

Everybody has bad days, but Wilson’s ERA is particularly volatile thanks to the games when couldn’t get an out. Weezy’s ERA is the highest among active Dodger pitchers (including starters), but he was catching up on Chris Perez until Carlos Triunfel didn’t turn two.
